Founder 3GJUICE interviewed by New York Times

by Henk van Ess

Marci Alboher from the New York Times wanted to know more about the role LinkedIn played in the development of the 3GJUICE. She interviewed me by phone and mail to find out that I was an accidental entrepreneur.

Her very accurate article wasn’t written in a day, but took her weeks to write. First, there was this crash on Wall Street. She also did a very thorough background check on me.
I survived her scrutiny after sending copies of emails, screenshots of postings in LinkedIn and a detailed report on what happened on July 11 and afterwards.

I got my iPhone 3G on that day. I was out of power in only 4 hours. So I asked the same day in LinkedIn if anyone could help me. Never I expected that a real manufacturer (NASDAQ) would make me an offer. After only 2 days I was in business. After the article in the NYT I’m getting plans for world domination. Resellers ask me to sell the 3GJUICE in their country. Last week I closed a deal with a reseller for Australia and more countries will follow soon.

Marci writes:

Mr. van Ess says the battery sales company is just a side gig, and that he won’t be promoting his battery business when talking to clients. Still, that doesn’t seemed to have dampened his enthusiasm for spreading the word about his product.

That’s totally true. That old sales cliche ‘I use the product myself!’ is for once true. I just developed a product that I wanted to have myself.

Marci ended her article with a true observation. It are busy times for me.

Mr. van Ess now uses Amazon.com to fulfill orders from American customers. All this unfolded while his wife was moments away from having their second child. In between my first phone call with Mr. van Ess and the follow-up e-mail messages, his son was born. With both the birth of a child and the birth of a new business, it sounds like a busy time in the van Ess household.
