So where is your 3G JUICE made? Find out more then you want to know. It’s built by China BAK Battery in Shenzhen, China. The firm was awarded ‘China Top Brand’ in 2007 (no, not every firm in China wins one) and is a NASDAQ company with offices in the US, Canada and Germany. They’ve automated almost every stage of their manufacturing process, like mixing, slurry, coating and winding to ensure a high level of uniformity.

That enables them to built cheap and fast, but the quality is good. Sounds Chinese, doesn’t it? China BAK produces over 2.000.000 battery units per month (2008). Five years earlier, in 2003, they produced ‘only’ 300.000 units each month. Currently they are building a new factory in the industrial park of Tianjin.

Here’s what they say about their research department:

We place a strong emphasis on R&D, particularly on technological innovation and the development of new battery cell materials and products. We have established a dedicated R&D center with what we believe to be the most advanced equipment in China. Our R&D team consists of 240 researchers and scientists, led by Dr. Huanyu Mao, our chief operating officer and chief technology officer, who has pioneered, and is a veteran of, the lithium-ion industry since its commercialization in 1992. Dr. Mao was the inventor under seven U.S. patents related to lithium-ion technology. In December 2006, we also established a wholly-owned subsidiary, BAK Canada, to focus on the research and development of lithium-ion batteries, which comprises a group of experts led by Mr. Kenneth G. Broom, our vice president of International OEM Business, who brings 23 years’ li-ion battery industry working experience

thanks for the post! the question is really important and many customers consider it before purchasing the product. Germany used to mean quality, China on the contrary... I believe those are stereotypes though. nowadays, in times of globalisation georgaphical address is not so important anymore.
