Oh That Battery!

The Wall Street Journal is not happy with the batterylife of the new 3G iPhone. This is what Walter S. Mossberg says:

First, in my tests, the iPhone 3G’s battery was drained much more quickly in a typical day of use than the battery on the original iPhone, due to the higher power demands of 3G networks. This is an especially significant problem because, unlike most other smart phones, the iPhone has a sealed battery that can’t be replaced with a spare.

Dear Pierre,

The new batch will be finished in the 3th week of September. It's a new model. If you order now, you get it for the same price as the old model. The unit will look exactly the same as the current model, but inside we made a lot of change to boost the efficiency of the battery. Why didn't we come with this model in the first place? It's a product 2.0! You all came with good suggestions which we tried to implement in this model.

The real output needed for you iPhone is normally below 0.9A, so we thought in the first version that a 1A output current was fine. But in reality your iPhone or iPod sometimes wants 0.97A and in some rare cases even more then 1A. The new version has an brand new electronic circuit which is able to deliver 2A output current. Any peaks can easily be taken care of, resulting in a very, very cool battery. With some tweaking in the integrated circuits we managed to boost the efficiency of the battery too. In labtests we got 90% efficiency. Since we live in a real world, we tested it also during office hours, in cars, in planes and other places. The efficiency was still 85-90%. That is a industry record for such small battery.

Also we changed the alignment so you get a perfect horizontal phone and battery. A new integrated circuit will make your 3GJUICE under extreme conditions: -40 - +80 (Celsius). Smaller improvements: no glue used, better fitting cap, new strip, extra overload protection.
